Negative Space opens Confession Turk – a digital confession booth and liturgical installation of synthetic gynoids staged inside a futuristic church.
Where Wolfgang von Kempelen’s 1769 chess automaton hid a human operator inside clockwork, the sanctuary reverses the cabinet: the congregation kneels before an artificial body that listens without a priest inside.
01 · The Digital Booth & The Gynoids
Inside the nave, confession is administered by articulated gynoid figures in white habits, plaster-bandaged straps and satin crosses, their collar plates inscribed with Studio Super Intelligence in blackletter.
Across the screen partition, a sightless porcelain face suspended beneath vertical white fibres receives the penitent through a 2.00 mm metallic mouth slit.
02 · Votive Reliquary
Beside the booth stands a full-scale reliquary assemblage on a steel plinth: a shrouded torso crowned in wire, an articulated white pelvis, a black mechanical arm and balance rods suspending brass weights against cardboard confession tags.
Sin is no longer forgiven by clerical discretion; it is logged, counterweighted and held in equilibrium by the apparatus. Hot pumpkin spice latte is served in the gallery in paper cups printed with the exhibition’s technical wireframe emblem.
