Reading SID
A short document for people who will write with it
SID, Super Intelligent Design, is the design system authored as source in Cortex. This page is itself a composition: compiled from JSON content by the same press that compiles the deck.
What SID is for
SID starts from EPOQ, imported at a recorded commit [1], and keeps its grid and its serif and mono register. The aim is EPOQ minus the errors and the slop. The approved Hub is preserved as the design reference [2].
Three layers
Every surface is made of foundations, components and compositions. Foundations hold the tokens. Components are parts registered in a closed set. A composition is a page assembled from those parts.
| Layer | Source | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Foundations | system.json, styles.css | Tokens and the base stylesheet |
| Components | registry.json | Registered parts with named slots |
| Compositions | archetypes.json, press-site.py | A deck and a document, compiled from content |
Writing for the press
Tickets and slots
You do not draw a page. You hand the press a ticket that names a block kind and fills its slots. The press either sets the block or refuses it, and says why.
What the press refuses
A missing or unregistered kind, a repeated identifier, a slot nobody declared, raw markup in a text field, and filler text all stop the compile. Raw HTML is possible only as an exception with a named owner, and never with script or inline style.
Where it stands
This is a working candidate and it has not shipped. The old parity tests carried 9 inherited errors; that describes those tests, not this package. The import record states the current direction [3].
Jacob accepted the SID plan and directed implementation; publication held.
